That year saw temporary work permits issued for the province jump by 36 per cent over 2o17.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/quebec-foreign-workers-immigration-1.5247061\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">analysis by CBC News<\/a>\u00a0shows this trend has accelerated since the October 2018 election of the province\u2019s new Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) government, which introduced a temporary 20 per cent reduction in the number of immigrants admitted to the province this year.<\/p>\n<h3>Subsidies for recruitment, moving expenses<\/h3>\n<p>Among the initiatives announced August 26 are commitments to partially subsidize international recruitment efforts by businesses and cover up to $1,000 in relocation expenses for temporary foreign workers.<\/p>\n<p>A news release from the province\u2019s ministry of labour said the funding will support nearly 2,000 Quebec businesses in their international recruitment efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining $33.9 million will go to two programs that work with temporary foreign workers to help them integrate into Quebec\u2019s labour market \u2014 the Programme d\u2019aide \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9gration des immigrants et des minorit\u00e9s visibles (PRIIME) and the Programme d\u2019int\u00e9gration en emploi de personnes form\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger r\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es par un ordre professionnel (IPOP).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recruitment of temporary foreign workers is an option that more and more businesses are turning to in their efforts to address labour shortages,\u201d Boulet said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the new measures will help ensure that the integration of temporary foreign workers into Quebec\u2019s labour market is \u201cpositive and durable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quebec\u2019s CAQ government has faced criticism from business groups in the province for reducing immigration despite the mounting labour crisis.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/5755943\/quebec-business-lobby-says-province-needs-more-immigrants-to-meet-needs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a brief<\/a>\u00a0filed with the government earlier this month, the province\u2019s chambers of commerce federation said Quebec needs about 60,000 immigrants per year \u2014 20,000 more than the government plans on accepting in 2019 \u2014in order to reduce labour shortages and spur economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>Others have said that resorting to temporary foreign workers to fill the gaps is not a viable long-term solution to the fact Quebec\u2019s population is ageing and its labour pool is shrinking.<\/p>\n<p>The CAQ government says its immigration policies will ensure immigrants are properly integrated and that those admitted meet existing labour needs in the province.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a9 2019 CIC News All Rights Reserved<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Quebec has announced nearly $55 million in funding to help in the recruitment and integration of temporary &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":228410,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-228406","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-immigration","mauthors-cic-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228406","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=228406"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228406\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":228413,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228406\/revisions\/228413"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/228410"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=228406"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=228406"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=228406"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
