MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday admitted that he continues to pray to God to spare the Philippines from possible attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).<\/p>\n

\u201cMeron po akong ISIS and ito \u2018yung nagbibigay sa akin ng kaba talaga<\/em>\u00a0(I have ISIS and this is really making me feel nervous),\u201d Duterte said in a speech during the oath-taking of newly-appointed officials in Malaca\u00f1an Palace.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not a person easily swayed by\u00a0itong mga dito<\/em>\u00a0(terrorists here) but\u00a0\u2018yung putok<\/em>\u00a0(but the bombing attack) you are not — you are spectators of the international scene,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Duterte said what he feared the most is seeing scores of innocent people killed just like in Iraq and Syria.<\/p>\n

“Ang tinatakutan ko \u2018yung<\/em>\u00a0just like Iraq, Syria\u00a0na maraming inosenteng taong nadadale<\/em>\u00a0(What I’m really afraid of is just like in Iraq, Syria, there will be many innocent people killed),” Duterte said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m praying, I really pray,\u00a0talagang lumuluhod ako sa Diyos na<\/em>\u00a0(I really kneel to God) to spare us the kind of brutality and cruelty in our country because it will really be bloody, bloody as it can ever be,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Duterte mentioned of \u201csparks\u201d that would derail the transition period to the establishment of the Bangsamoro parliamentary government in 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs it is\u00a0\u2018yung<\/em>\u00a0(the) Bangsamoro Law, there are already a sort of\u00a0medyo<\/em>\u00a0(some) sparks there that would tend to maybe derail the smooth transition for the Bangsamoro people. That is territorial,\u00a0\u2018yung kay<\/em>\u00a0(the one by) Murad, MILF,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

Duterte was referring to Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) interim chief minister and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim.<\/p>\n

He also expressed hope that Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari would accept \u201cthe same arrangement\u201d he gave the MILF which led to the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).<\/p>\n

\u201cMeron tayong<\/em>\u00a0(We have) MNLF that is the Sulu up to Tawi-Tawi area, Basilan, I am praying to God that Nur Misuari will be enlightened and will be able to accept maybe the same terms that we have extended to Murad,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the only way really without a breakage in our society,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
