MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— William Dar will be returning as acting secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), a Palace official said on Monday.<\/p>\n

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Dar will be replacing Emmanuel \u201cManny\u201d Pi\u00f1ol who will be transferred to the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa).<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Medialdea said in a text message when asked to confirm Dar\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Medialdea said the Office of the President has received several recommendations but the President has yet to arrive at a decision.<\/p>\n

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, for his part, deferred to the President to make the announcement on the DA\u2019s next chief.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s wait for the President\u2019s announcement,\u201d Panelo said in a Palace briefing.<\/p>\n

Dar first served as Acting Secretary of Agriculture during the term of President Joseph \u201cErap\u201d Estrada.<\/p>\n

He was also Presidential Adviser on Rural Development and former Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics.<\/p>\n

Duterte may announce DA\u2019s next chief during the oath-taking of newly appointed officials in Malaca\u00f1an Palace on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Last month, Duterte bared that he is eyeing a military man to take the place Pi\u00f1ol once he is formally designated as \u201cpoint man\u201d to develop Mindanao.<\/p>\n

In a television interview, Duterte said he has already started \u201cscouting around\u201d for Pi\u00f1ol\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Medialdea also confirmed that Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Rodil Zalameda to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

Zalameda will replace Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo who retired on July 29 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
