MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— A military man may take the place of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel \u201cManny\u201d Pi\u00f1ol once he is formally designated as \u201cpoint man\u201d to develop Mindanao.<\/p>\n

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday he is already \u201cscouting around\u201d for Pi\u00f1ol\u2019s replacement, stressing that he preferred military men because they immediately follow his orders.<\/p>\n

\u201c(I\u2019m) scouting around. I think maybe again a military man.\u00a0Kasi madali mag-utos magtrabaho<\/em>. And they do it without a question,\u201d Duterte said in a television interview with Pastor Apollo Quiboloy in Davao City.<\/p>\n

\u201cKasi sabi ko sa kanya<\/em>\u00a0(Because when I tell him) do this and do that, do not question me because I will never give you an order to do something that is illegal,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

While Duterte did not name any military man in particular, he stressed the need to delegate someone to coordinate with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) for the region\u2019s benefit.<\/p>\n

Duterte said he will reassign Pi\u00f1ol to the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa) and give him a Cabinet position.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Pinol who\u2019s moving to another entity. Pi\u00f1ol is a very good Cabinet member.\u00a0Ang problema, ako. Kasi wala akong tao<\/em>\u00a0(The problem is me. I don\u2019t have someone) since the BARMM. There is nobody on my side dito (here) talking to the BARMM to make the necessary arrangements for this entity to grow and their needs,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

The President pointed out that the Philippines is an \u201cagriculture\u201d country and Pi\u00f1ol was the perfect person to develop Mindanao given his experience as a farmer and former North Cotabato governor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must remember that it is an agricultural country and Pi\u00f1ol is a farmer who was once a governor and he was born there and he\u2019s good. The Mindanao Development Authority is a Cabinet position. He is still a Cabinet,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Last week, Duterte said BARMM interim Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim has accepted the President\u2019s proposal to designate Pi\u00f1ol as the \u201cpoint man\u201d to develop Mindanao.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure he can help the BARMM and the government to fast-track everything,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

Murad was initially reluctant about Pi\u00f1ol\u2019s designation, saying the Moro people disliked him because of his role in junking the memorandum of agreement on ancestral domain (MOA-AD) which was meant to expand the autonomous Muslim region in Mindanao in 2008 but still respected the President\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n

On June 27, Pi\u00f1ol offered to resign and requested to be transferred to an agency where he can effectively serve, particularly MinDa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
