Abrams sent her his version of the script for \u201cStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,\u201d it overwhelmed her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I read his script that he wrote I cried,\u201d she told The Associated Press in a recent interview. \u201cI mean who knows what it will turn out to be and I hope it remains true to what he originally wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abrams directs the film which is the final chapter in the Skywalker story that started with 1977&#8217;s \u201cStar Wars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russell says Abrams is the right person to finish the saga because he cares.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe&#8217;s not trying to change it to be something else,\u201d she said. \u201cHe really respects what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russell plays a new character named Zorri Bliss. She can&#8217;t reveal much about the character except that she loves the costume. She calls the character and her look \u201cbad ass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She recalled Abrams told her she would need to wear a helmet. \u201cI was like, &#8216;That is my dream job. I can see everyone. No one can see me. Hello. Amazing!\u201d&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Russell said the original \u201cStar Wars\u201d films are among the first she saw in theatres, so it&#8217;s amazing to be part of them now. \u201cI have such memories of Princess Leia and Chewbacca and Han Solo, I have such memories of them\u2014 like everyone does,\u201d she said. \u201cSo, yes, it&#8217;s incredible to get to be whatever part I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russell and Abrams have a creative history because he co-created her series \u201cFelicity,\u201d for which she won a Golden Globe. She also had a small role in \u201cMission: Impossible III,\u201d which he directed.
