(Photo by Gil Nartea \/ Malaca\u00f1ang Photo Bureau)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; Contrary to earlier statements, President Aquino is now open to amending \u00a0the Constitution and extending his term.<\/p>\n<p>This according to the president, is in order to check on the power of the Supreme Court, a coequal of the executive and legislative branch.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cBefore all of these happened, I admit I had a closed mind. But now I realized that there is judicial reach. Congress and the executive may act but they can be punished anytime,\u201d he said on Wednesday in an exclusive interview with TV5.change.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Aquino, however, explained that his being open to the idea does not necessarily mean that he would &#8220;automatically go for an additional term,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I took this office, I recall that it was only for one term of six years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, after having said that, of course, I have to listen to my bosses [the people],&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that what he meant by listening to the masses is like asking them how his &#8220;reforms&#8221; will continue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA &#8212; Contrary to earlier statements, President Aquino is now open to amending \u00a0the Constitution and extending his term.
