(File <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BpVkCn8ncXS\/\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/taylorswift\/\">@taylorswift\/Instagram<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NEW YORK &#8211; Taylor Swift&#8217;s latest song has a new target: homophobes.<\/p>\n<p>Coinciding with the announcement of her seventh album, \u201cLover,\u201d the pop star has released a new tune called \u201cYou Need to Calm Down,\u201d where she addresses her own haters but also calls out those who attack the L-G-B-T-Q community.<\/p>\n<p>At one point on the beat-laden track, Swift sings: \u201cAnd control your urges to scream about all the people you hate\/ &#8216;Cause shade never made anybody less gay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At another point she sings: \u201cYou need to just stop, like can you just not step on his gown?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou Need to Calm Down\u201d is the second single from \u201cLover,\u201d to be released on August 23rd.<\/p>\n<p>The song is the follow-up to \u201cME!,\u201d which featured Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.<\/p>\n<p>Swift also released a colorful lyric video to match the new song on YouTube late Thursday \u2014 appropriately during Pride Month.<\/p>\n<p>A music video will be released Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month Swift posted a letter on social media asking Tennessee&#8217;s Republican U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander to protect L-G-B-T-Q rights and support the Equality Act.<\/p>\n<p>Swift lives in Tennessee and said she supported the House&#8217;s recent passage of the act, which would extend civil rights protections to L-G-B-T people by prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>(The Associated Press)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK &#8211; Taylor Swift&#8217;s latest song has a new target: homophobes.
