(PTV Photo via PNA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The Philippines doesn\u2019t want any trouble in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) and only wants what\u2019s best for all its claimants, Malaca\u00f1ang said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made this reaction after Chinese Minister of National Defense, Gen. Wei Fenghe, in an international security forum in Singapore, said China has every right to build defense facilities on its claimed territories in the contested sea.<\/p>\n<p>US Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, for his part, said it will no longer \u201ctiptoe\u201d around China\u2019s behavior. As a treaty ally, the US, earlier vowed to aid the Philippines in the event of an armed attack in the disputed waters.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo, however, belittled Shanahan\u2019s remark, saying that despite its commitment, the US has done nothing but \u201cposture\u201d itself in the South China Sea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve been saying that but they\u2019re not doing it.\u00a0<em>Puro<\/em>\u00a0posturing\u00a0<em>lang yung nangyayari sa kanila e<\/em>\u00a0(All they\u2019re doing is posturing),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if Palace would have wanted the US to be more aggressive towards China, Panelo said all the Philippines wants is \u201cstability\u201d in the SCS.<\/p>\n<p>According to Panelo, the Philippine position is that \u201cevery country has a right to use the waters in the South China Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want peace and quiet in that area. So anything that will provide such kind of atmosphere, we are for it,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the presence of the US will make it so, then that\u2019s good for all of the claimants,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the Chinese defense minister\u2019s statement, Panelo said President Rodrigo Duterte has maintained his position that Philippines owns parts of the South China Sea.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said the Philippines would rather just watch rather than join tensions between China and the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, as I said we will leave it to them\u00a0<em>kung ano ang gusto nila gawin. Basta tayo, kung anong makakabuti doon sa lahat ng mga<\/em>\u00a0claimants,\u00a0<em>doon tayo<\/em>\u00a0(to do whatever they want to do. But us, we\u2019re for whatever\u2019s best for all claimants),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBasta ayaw natin ng gulo doon\u00a0<\/em>(We don\u2019t want any trouble).
