MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— Malaca\u00f1ang believes that the result of the May 13 midterm elections are \u201ccredible\u201d despite glitches experienced by the transparency server and vote counting machines (VCMs).<\/p>\n

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo assured that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be investigating the problem encountered by the transparency server, but noted that this would not affect the voting results.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter\u00a0kung ma-<\/em>delay\u00a0ito. Kasi kung<\/em>\u00a0delay\u00a0lang<\/em>, but the same number of votes\u00a0pa rin<\/em>,\u00a0anong problema doon<\/em>\u00a0(if it gets delayed. Because if it\u2019s just delayed, but has the same number of votes, what\u2019s the problem there)?\u201d Panelo said in a Palace briefing.<\/p>\n

As for the glitches in the VCMs, Panelo said there is always the manual counting of votes to serve as a \u201cremedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panelo, however, said the Palace will back calls for an investigation of the alleged ballot-shading incident in Lanao Del Sur.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Comelec should investigate that. That\u2019s their turf,\u00a0hindi tayo puwedeng makialam diyan sa ngayon<\/em>\u00a0(we can\u2019t interfere with that now),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n

Panelo was dismayed by an estimated 1.1 million Filipinos over-voting for senatorial candidates during the May 13 mid-term elections.<\/p>\n

He said Comelec should educate voters more on voting for only 12 candidates for senator, otherwise their votes will be invalid.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the Comelec should do something about that.\u00a0Kasi, biruin mo 1.1\u00a0<\/em>million\u00a0hindi mo mabibilang<\/em>\u00a0(Because just think about it, they\u2019re 1.1 million votes that you won\u2019t count),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Panelo also suggested the use of modern technology to allow voters to just press a button and immediately get to vote.<\/p>\n

Not blind followers<\/strong><\/p>\n

As administration-backed candidates continue to dominate the senatorial race, Panelo assured that they will not become the President’s blind followers.<\/p>\n

\u201cNagkataon lang na malapit sila sa<\/em>\u00a0President. It doesn\u2019t mean anything\u00a0na ibig sabihin eh, sunud-sunuran sila<\/em>\u00a0(It\u2019s only a coincidence they\u2019re close to the President. It doesn\u2019t mean anything that he says, they\u2019ll follow),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n

Panelo, meanwhile, said that despite having more allies in the Senate, the passage of the President\u2019s priority bills will still depend on the lawmakers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that will depend again on the members of Congress. If they feel that they should pass it immediately, then they will,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must remember that these two Houses are deliberative assemblies. So when you say deliberative, it means they will have to discuss, to deliberate the pros and the cons,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Panelo said he expects lawmakers to pass measures that will benefit Filipinos despite their political affiliations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
