They said no collusion.\u201d (File <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1076256868190834689\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/\">@realdonaldtrump\/Twitter<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 President Donald Trump pledged Monday not to use information stolen by foreign adversaries in his 2020 reelection campaign, even as he wrongly insisted he hadn&#8217;t used such information to his benefit in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>During a question-and-answer session with reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he \u201cwould certainly agree to\u201d that commitment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t need it,\u201d he said as he met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. \u201cAll I need is the opponents that I&#8217;m looking at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Trump also insisted erroneously that he \u201cnever did use, as you probably know,\u201d such information, adding: \u201cThat&#8217;s what the Mueller report was all about. They said no collusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While special counsel Robert Mueller&#8217;s investigation didn&#8217;t establish a criminal conspiracy between Russia and Trump&#8217;s campaign, Trump repeatedly praised WikiLeaks in 2016 and celebrated information exposed by Russian hackers on the campaign trail.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Mueller&#8217;s report described Trump&#8217;s campaign as eager to exploit the release of hacked Democratic emails to hurt rival Hillary Clinton. At one point, Trump even called on Russia to help find missing Clinton emails \u2014 a call he now says was a joke.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also announced Monday that he will be meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a gathering of the leaders of the Group of 20 major economies in Osaka, Japan next month \u2014 the pair&#8217;s first face-to-face since the Mueller report&#8217;s release.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Putin did speak by phone for more than an hour earlier this month, discussing a range of issues, including what Trump again dismissed as the \u201cRussian Hoax,\u201d a possible three-party arms control pact with China, and the crisis in Venezuela, where Moscow is propping up the current government over the U.S.-backed opposition.
