(<a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=36591588\">File Photo By Gorup de Besanez &#8211; Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>LOS ANGELES \u2013 Werner Herzog is calling \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d \u201ca phenomenal achievement\u201d after joining the cast of the streaming series set in the \u201cStar Wars\u201d universe.<\/p>\n<p>Herzog told The Associated Press that he&#8217;ll likely appear in two or three episodes of Jon Favreau&#8217;s series as \u201ca character in whom you cannot trust.\u201d The series, starring Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano and Carl Weathers, is set to premiere in November with the launch of the new Disney Plus streaming service.<\/p>\n<p>The famed 76-year-old German writer, director and actor does have a confession: He&#8217;s never seen a \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve seen some trailers. I&#8217;ve seen some excerpts here and there. And I know about the whole franchise and about the toys for the kids and so \u2013 it&#8217;s all a new mythology,\u201d Herzog said. &#8230; You better take them seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Herzog said he was impressed by the practical, real-world approach of \u201cThe Mandalorian,\u201d whose directors include Taika Waititi and Bryce Dallas Howard. The series is set in the aftermath of \u201cThe Return of the Jedi,\u201d taking place five years after the Rebellion&#8217;s victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8217;Mandalorian&#8217; was filmed not like all the other &#8216;Star Wars&#8217; or other big event films &#8212; green screen, green screen everywhere \u2013 and the camera motion-control moving there,\u201d Herzog said. \u201cAll of a sudden you have a phenomenal step forward. As an actor, you see the entire planet on which you are. You see the landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe camera, that could even be hand-held and move in between us, sees the same landscape. It&#8217;s not green-screen and artificiality. It brings movie-making back where it should be.
