{"id":2114,"date":"2013-09-03T06:54:06","date_gmt":"2013-09-03T13:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/?p=2114"},"modified":"2014-02-09T06:55:16","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T14:55:16","slug":"i-like-to-move-it-move-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2013\/09\/03\/i-like-to-move-it-move-it\/","title":{"rendered":"I like to move it, move it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/shutterstock_69860572.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2115\" alt=\"shutterstock_69860572\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/shutterstock_69860572.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/shutterstock_69860572.jpg 500w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/shutterstock_69860572-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The thrill of a new home and new surroundings:\u00a0 few things can compare with it.\u00a0 Much like that \u201cnew car smell\u201d, moving into a new home can provide that same exhilarating feel; that fuzzy, warm-in-your-tummy, chest-bursting sensation of pride and accomplishment that says \u201cI\u2019ve arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the motivation\u2014growing family, in search of lower rent; better home and environment\u2014a move to a new home is a major milestone in anyone\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>However, the eager anticipation of new digs is tempered by one factor as daunting as the promise of a new home is inspiring:\u00a0 THE MOVE!<\/p>\n<p>Getting to the \u201cPromised Land\u201d is often a challenge-filled journey.\u00a0 Much as the Israelites of ancient days faced plagues, flying serpents, giants, and other numerous difficulties, moving to a new home can be fraught with all sorts of difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>Sorting, packing, organizing; putting years of your life away into boxes, before the actual move.\u00a0 And let\u2019s not forget, the UNpacking, sorting and organizing all over again.\u00a0 Definitely enough to stir up a grumbling and complaining to rival the murmuring of the Israelites on the journey.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the entire process is mind-boggling, nerve-wracking, and tedious enough to test the virtue of the saintliest of saints.\u00a0 Small wonder God told the Israelites to take only the sandals on their feet, and no more than they could carry;\u00a0 a <i>very <\/i>tall order, indeed.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some sanity-saving, soul-soothing tips to make the move easier:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Plot it all out<\/b>.\u00a0 Make a master list and timeline of all the tasks at hand, and try to stick with this.\u00a0 Do not forget to include in the list the task of informing family and friends of your new address.\u00a0 Unless, of course, you are on the lam for whatever reason (I kid).<\/li>\n<li><b>Do NOT procrastinate<\/b>!\u00a0 Keep to your tasks at hand with the discipline of a good soldier\u2014days roll around quicker than we\u2019d like them to, sometimes, and \u201cM\u201d-Day will be at your doorstep sooner than you know it.<\/li>\n<li><b>Snap it up<\/b>.\u00a0 Take pictures of each room of your old home, to serve as a guide for when you fix up your new home.\u00a0 Key word: <i>guide<\/i>.\u00a0 A new home is an awesome chance at a fresh start and a flood of new decorating ideas.\u00a0\u00a0 By the way, don\u2019t forget to take photos of things that may need re-assembling or hooking-up\u2014furniture, accessories, electronics\u2014especially if the manuals are nowhere to be found.<\/li>\n<li><b>Count pennies on packing materials<\/b>.\u00a0 Determine how many boxes you will need, for instance, and make the rounds of grocery, department, or appliance stores.\u00a0 Most of these places have boxes to spare.<\/li>\n<li><b>Call a professional<\/b>.\u00a0 If you can put aside the budget for it, hire professional movers.\u00a0 Canvass for quotes online, and get some referrals, whenever possible.\u00a0 This may be more costly than the DIY approach, but might be a worthwhile investment.\u00a0 Especially if you are working on a limited time frame within which to complete your move.<\/li>\n<li><b>Get by with a little help from your friends<\/b>.
