Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray posts a photo of herself beating the heat by enjoying the beach during the Holy Week break, but receives a negative reaction which she felt the need to respond to this past weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the photo, posted Thursday, April 18, Catriona is seen sizzling in a blue bikini, with her hair and body soaked in the water, captioned, \u201cWhere I\u2019d rather be to escape the Philippine summer heat. I, unfortunately, wasn\u2019t able to get vitamin sea on my short trip back home to the Philippines, but the beach is where my mind will be!\u201d Amidst her 5.3 million followers, one netizen under the username \u2018Maecy\u2019 responded negatively, saying, \u201cHoly Week is not about vacationing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Filipino-Australian was quick to defend herself, answering the comment, \u201cYes, I agree. Holy Week is a very meaningful time for Christians (like me), Catholics and other faiths but as I speak to an audience of an array of faiths and beliefs, within and outside of the Philippines I want to be inclusive with the conversations I pose on social media.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As of writing, there are more than 1000 replies on the discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 25-year-old beauty queen is now back in New York to fulfill her duties as the country\u2019s fourth Miss Universe, after being spotted in her home country the past couple of weeks. She promises that she will \u201cbe back in the Philippines again by June\u201d to turn over the Miss Universe Philippines crown to her successor for the Binibining Pilipinas 2019 coronation night. When asked what tip she would give the current candidates, Catriona says, \u201cAllow yourself to shine and feel the most beautiful you. I really understand the situation and the pressure that have been going around you, like one would tell you should wear this, but remember to do what you like, what do you think will make you beautiful.
