(Shutterstock Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Applicants approved for permanent residence under Canada\u2019s Interim Pathway for Caregivers can also apply for a Canadian open work permit.<span id=\"more-12066\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Under an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) program delivery update issued March 21,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canada-caregivers-pathways-permanent-residence.html#interim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interim Pathway for Caregivers<\/a>\u00a0candidates can submit an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-open-work-permits.html\">open work permit<\/a>\u00a0application\u00a0<b>along with\u00a0<\/b>their application for permanent residence.<\/p>\n<p>IRCC says processing of the open work permit application will only begin once candidates pass IRCC\u2019s eligibility test for the pathway.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for an open work permit, an Interim Pathway for Caregivers applicant must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be in Canada and intend to reside in a province or territory other than Quebec;<\/li>\n<li>be one of the following at the time of application:\n<ul>\n<li>authorized to work in Canada with a work permit other than a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canada-caregivers-pathways-permanent-residence.html#LCP\">Live-in Caregiver Program<\/a>\u00a0work permit;<\/li>\n<li>authorized to work without a work permit if they have applied for a renewal of a work permit other than a Live-in Caregiver Program work permit; or<\/li>\n<li>eligible for restoration of status, have applied for restoration and have held a work permit other than a Live-in Caregiver Program work permit as their most recent work permit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>be the\u00a0<strong>principal applicant<\/strong>\u00a0on an application for permanent residence under the Interim Pathway for Caregivers; and<\/li>\n<li>have received a positive eligibility assessment of their paper application for permanent residence, or APR, under the Interim Pathway for Caregivers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Open work permit for spouses, common-law partners and dependents\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Open work permits are also available to family members of eligible Interim Pathway applicants.
