BALANGA CITY, Bataan<\/strong>\u00a0— The number of workers at the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) in Mariveles town has more than tripled compared to about 10 years ago, the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Engineer Emmanuel Pineda, AFAB chairman, said that as of February 28 this year, there were 41,888 workers employed in 98 operational multinational firms in the Mariveles Freeport.<\/p>\n

FAB was formerly the Bataan Export Processing Zone, the first processing zone in the country that was later turned into the Bataan Economic Zone.<\/p>\n

There were 12,777 workers in 33 locators in 2010 before AFAB was formed, he said.<\/p>\n

Pineda said more jobs will be created at FAB as 26 hectares are still up for lease with seven additional factory buildings under construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe success of FAB lies in its \u2018Soft Heart\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pineda said the plans and development in the thriving Freeport are anchored on his personally-crafted acronym SOFT HEART.<\/p>\n

SOFT stands for project values with \u201cS\u201d for socially relevant, \u201cO\u201d for operationally viable, \u201cF\u201d for financially feasible and \u201cT\u201d for technologically advanced.<\/p>\n

HEART represents the freeport\u2019s main projects. \u201cH\u201d is for housing and hotels, \u201cE\u201d for expansion areas, \u201cA\u201d for accessibility, \u201cR\u201d for renewable energy and \u201cT\u201d for transportation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
