Duterte reiterated his \u201csolemn\u201d campaign promise to end the illegal drug trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kung paabutin ako ng Diyos<\/em>\u00a0three years from now\u2026\u00a0<em>tatapusin ko \u2018to ito, itong\u2026 P***** i** ninyo tatapusin ko talaga ito<\/em>. (If God will let me keep my post three years from now\u2026I will finish this. I will really finish this),\u201d Duterte said during the PDP-Laban campaign rally in Bi\u00f1an City, Laguna on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m posing this challenge.\u00a0<em>Nandito lahat ang<\/em>\u00a0networks\u00a0<em>eh. Tapusin na natin ito<\/em>\u00a0(All networks are here. Let\u2019s finish this). I\u2019ll make you that solemn promise,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte claimed that illegal drugs, particularly shabu, affect around 7 to 8 million Filipinos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are 7 to 8 million Filipinos reduced to slaves to a drug called shabu. Seven to eight million lost souls,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>He also encouraged the youth to stay away from illegal drugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kayong lahat na hindi pa naka-umpisa, kayong mga bata, lumayo kayo<\/em>\u00a0(Those of you who haven\u2019t started taking illegal drugs, especially you kids, stay away from them),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m pleading to you, almost on bended knees.\u00a0<em>Huwag kayong pumasok at i-control ninyo &#8216;yang droga kasi papatayin talaga ang bayan natin. Sayang ang Pilipinas. So ako umaasa talaga sa inyo<\/em>\u00a0(Don\u2019t enter in the illegal drug trade and control it, because it will really kill our country. The Philippines will be put to waste. So I really am relying on you),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The President also blasted human rights groups and advocates for criticizing his aggressive campaign on illegal drugs noting that all they did was \u201ccomplain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 20, Duterte said he wanted the war on illegal drugs to be \u201charsher in the coming days\u201d noting that he did not want the country considered as a \u201cfailed state\u201d because of drugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI decided but I think I\u2019d be more &#8212; well I said harsher in the days to come,\u201d Duterte said in his speech in Malaca\u00f1an Palace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not allow my country to be destroyed by drugs. I will not allow my country to end up a failed state because of drugs. And I am declaring war and I said I will kill anybody who stands in the way,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged that nobody might be able to solve the illegal drug problem in due time but stressed that he wanted to finish what he started.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; If he would live until the end of his term in 2022, President Rodrigo R.
