MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— Malaca\u00f1ang on Thursday mourned the passing of National Artist for Architecture Francisco \u201cBobby\u201d Ma\u00f1osa, describing him as a \u201cknown nationalist\u201d for using indigenous Filipino materials in his designs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Palace expresses its deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Architect Francisco \u2018Bobby\u2019 Ma\u00f1osa,\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cArchitect Ma\u00f1osa will be missed but his influence and legacy will continue to live on,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Panelo remembered Ma\u00f1osa for popularizing the\u00a0“bahay kubo”<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0“bahay na bato”<\/em>, which became motifs in contemporary Filipino architecture.<\/p>\n

\u201cArchitect Ma\u00f1osa was a known nationalist who had been quoted as saying, \u2018I design Filipino, nothing else,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed, the so-called Father of Philippine Neo-vernacular Architecture devoted his lifetime work, championing the extensive use of indigenous Filipino materials in his design,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

It was the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) that first described Ma\u00f1osa as the \u201cFather of Philippine Neo-vernacular Architecture\u201d.<\/p>\n

Among Ma\u00f1osa\u2019s notable works of architecture are the Coconut Palace, Davao Pearl Farm, Edsa Shrine, and Amanpulo resorts.<\/p>\n

President Rodrigo R. Duterte conferred the Order of National Artist (Orden ng Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) in the field of Architecture on Ma\u00f1osa last year.<\/p>\n

Ma\u00f1osa died of a lingering illness on Wednesday, just more than a week after his 88th birthday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
