(PNA Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) on Wednesday convicted a Mexican national who is allegedly linked to the Sinaloa drug cartel, for selling 2.5 kg. of cocaine to undercover operatives four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>In a seven-page decision, RTC Branch 63 Judge Selma Palacio Alaras sentenced Horacio Hernandez Herrera to life imprisonment and a fine of PHP500,000 to PHP10 million.<\/p>\n<p>Herrera was arrested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents on Jan. 11, 2015 in a buy-bust operation at the parking area of Dona Dona Korean BBQ restaurant on Makati Ave., Barangay Poblacion, Makati City with 2,560 grams of cocaine.<\/p>\n<p>According to the court, months before the entrapment, police informants set the deal with Herrera in coffee shops in the area.<\/p>\n<p>He arrived in 2013 in Manila and was supposedly planning to put up a cocaine distribution ring in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Herrera claimed he was abducted by men in plain clothes from his hotel room and was taken to the car where he was later arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The court, however, noted that the defense failed to produce CCTV footage or eyewitnesses that they were supposed to present after they were given ample time to secure them.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera, Assistant State Prosecutors Josie Christina Dugay and Ethel Rea Suril prosecuted the case.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, a court in the United States convicted multi-billionaire Sinaloa drug kingpin Joaquin &#8220;El Chapo&#8221; Guzman, 61, on 10 counts of drug smuggling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) on Wednesday convicted a Mexican national who is allegedly linked to the Sinaloa &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":201989,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-201988","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-benjamin-pulta","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201988","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=201988"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201988\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/201989"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=201988"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=201988"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=201988"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
