He produced six of the tracks on the soundtrack album.<\/p>\n<p>Wells started his career working inside the Canadian music scene. He joined the Kim Mitchell Band when he was still a teenager before winning a Canada Council for the Arts grant to study in L.A. Since then he&#8217;s collaborated with some of music&#8217;s biggest stars, including k.d. lang, Adele and Keith Urban.<\/p>\n<p>He previously competed for Grammys twice: once for Katy Perry&#8217;s \u201cTeenage Dream\u201d and another time for Mika&#8217;s single \u201cLove Today.\u201d After losing both of them, Wells said he wasn&#8217;t expecting to win this time either.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn&#8217;t feel like a real thing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Other Canadians marking their first time as Grammy winners included Toronto-raised R&amp;B singer Daniel Caesar, who split the honour with Gabriella Wilson, known as American performer H.E.R., for their song \u201cBest Part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Caesar was previously nominated twice at last year&#8217;s Grammys for his debut album \u201cFreudian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fellow first-timer Willo Perron, who is from Montreal, nabbed the best recording package Grammy for his work on singer St. Vincent&#8217;s 2017 album \u201cMasseduction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Canadian-American violinist Lili Haydn won as part of the quartet Opium Moon. The musician received the best new age album Grammy for the group&#8217;s self-titled 2018 album.<\/p>\n<p>Haydn accepted the Grammy during the pre-telecast ceremony, saying she had \u201cso much love and gratitude and respect\u201d for other musicians nominated at the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>She said her fellow nominees \u201cdevoted literally countless hours of focus, passion and practice to making the most exquisite music we can make to sweeten this world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Veteran Grammy contender James Ehnes found himself on the receiving end of another golden prize for his contributions to violin concerto album \u201cKernis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Brandon, Man.-raised violinist won the best classical instrumental solo award \u2014 his second career win \u2014 while his composer, Aaron Jay Kernis, picked up a Grammy in the contemporary classical composition category for the album.<\/p>\n<p>Ehnes said his packed schedule meant he couldn&#8217;t make the Grammys, but he watched a livestream of the pre-telecast from his phone at home in Ellenton, Fl.<\/p>\n<p>Kernis accepted both Grammy awards on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had two bottles of champagne chilling just in case, so I guess I have to drink them both,\u201d Ehnes said of the production winning two Grammys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s exciting to feel that hard work rewarded.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Music producer Greg Wells says winning his first Grammy for the soundtrack to \u201cThe Greatest Showman\u201d felt like a scene &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":201716,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,106],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-201715","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-entertainment","category-hollywood","mauthors-david-friend","mauthors-the-canadian-press"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201715","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=201715"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201715\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/201716"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=201715"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=201715"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=201715"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
