Duterte is \u201cconscientious\u201d of his health, Malaca\u00f1ang assured anew following rumors on the chief executive\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors on the President\u2019s death resurfaced after he skipped an event in Palo, Leyte on Friday since he was not feeling well.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, however, assured that the President remains in good health, stressing that taking a break from work shows how he refuses to strain his body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President is conscientious of his health and he puts a break to his activities if he feels his body is not up to it,\u201d Panelo said in a statement Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn other words, he knows how to take care of himself and does not perform any activity beyond what is necessary or is harmful to his physical being,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo said the President spent the weekend resting and reassured the public that they should not feel concerned about his absence in some events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assure our countrymen that PRRD remains in robust health and is just resting in his Davao home for the weekend while preparing for the coming week&#8217;s grueling schedule,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo slammed the death hoax, describing it as \u201cfake news\u201d peddled by critics and detractors who cannot accept that the President is \u201cunstoppable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they hear PRRD cancelling a day\u2019s activities, they use it as an excuse to spread the false news that he is either in serious health condition or has passed away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo further said that they seem to be unable to accept that the President is \u201cindestructible and apparently immune from serious illness despite his punishing schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, the intention is to bring anxiety and apprehension to the majority of the Filipinos who believe and admire his unorthodox but effective type of governance,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo also said he was \u201camused\u201d by detractors\u2019 tendency to spread rumors about the President\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are sorry to disappoint the ill-wishers and the rumormongers even as we are amused by the detractors\u2019 propensity of running berserk in putting the President in a bad light or removing him from the physical plane in their minds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He, meanwhile, thanked supporters who continue to pray for the President\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thank those who pray for the President\u2019s good health that he may continue fulfilling his promises to the nation pursuant to his constitutional duty of serving and protecting the people,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday afternoon, Duterte himself quashed rumors of his supposed death by going live on Facebook and quipping about asking viewers to pray for his eternal rest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor those who believe in the news that I passed away, then I request of you, please pray for the eternal repose of my soul. Thank you,\u201d Duterte said in one of three live videos shared by his partner, Cielito \u201cHoneylet\u201d Avance\u00f1a on her Facebook account.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte mocked reports of his death by addressing viewers that he would schedule an interview with \u201cGod.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also asked clergymen to send out a message, if they had any, and drug pushers to make their last wishes because he would send them to either heaven or hell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy reaction to my passing away. I will ask God first if he\u2019s available for interview,\u00a0<em>kasi pupunta na ako dun\u00a0<\/em>(because I\u2019m going there),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAno mga mensahe ninyo? Dadalhin ko. Pari, obsipo, lahat.\u00a0<\/em>And\u00a0<em>&#8216;yung last wish ng mga durugista, ilista ninyo. Ako na ang magdala doon sa langit o sa impiyerno. Depende lang<\/em>\u00a0(What are your messages? I\u2019ll relay them. Priests, bishops, everyone. And the last wishes of drug pushers, list them. I\u2019ll bring them either to heaven or hell.
