Fox News Channel&#8217;s Sean Hannity and MSNBC&#8217;s Rachel Maddow are the top two personalities in cable television. They still are, but Cuomo&#8217;s \u201cPrime Time\u201d quickly established itself as CNN&#8217;s most-watched program and, with 1.64 million viewers in January, is having its best month, the Nielsen company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor certain, it was a challenge to begin with,\u201d said Melanie Buck, the show&#8217;s executive producer. \u201cI thought that going in there as the underdog gave us the chance to go in there without expectations that we would compete with them on a nightly basis. I think it took some of the pressure off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For CNN, viewership in the time slot is up 49 per cent over last January, when the network aired the second of two Anderson Cooper hours, Nielsen said.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo&#8217;s show made news in January with a head-scratching interview by President Donald Trump&#8217;s lawyer Rudolph Giuliani. Buck said she and Cuomo sought to build a show around the host&#8217;s expertise in law and politics, and skill in interviewing.<\/p>\n<p>Maddow led the 9 p.m. time slot, and all of cable news, with a January nightly average of 3.25 million viewers, Nielsen said. Hannity averaged 3.04 million.<\/p>\n<p>It was a big week for news: Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNN were the three most-watched cable networks, including all of\u00a0entertainment.\u00a0Fox News also reached the 17-year mark as the top-rated network in cable news.<\/p>\n<p>Among the broadcasters, CBS won the week in prime time, averaging 5.7 million viewers. NBC had 4.9 million, ABC had 4.6 million, Fox had 3.2 million, ION Television had 1.44 million, Univision had 1.38 million, Telemundo had 1.2 million and the CW had 1.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News Channel averaged 2.36 million viewers in prime time. MSNBC had 2.01 million, CNN had 1.34 million, TNT had 1.3 million and Hallmark had 1.29 million.<\/p>\n<p>ABC&#8217;s \u201cWorld News Tonight\u201d topped the evening newscasts with an average of 9.7 million viewers. NBC&#8217;s \u201cNightly News\u201d had 9 million and the \u201cCBS Evening News\u201d had 6.8 million viewers.<\/p>\n<p>For the week of Jan. 21-27, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d CBS, 11.24 million; \u201cAmerica&#8217;s Got Talent Champions,\u201d NBC, 9.71 million; \u201cChicago Med,\u201d NBC, 9.42 million; \u201cChicago Fire,\u201d NBC, 8.43 million; \u201cThe Big Bang Theory,\u201d CBS, 8.33 million; \u201cThis is Us,\u201d NBC, 8.23 million; \u201cThe Conners,\u201d ABC, 7.74 million; \u201cEllen&#8217;s Game of Games,\u201d NBC, 7.47 millionl; \u201cFBI,\u201d CBS, 7.4 million; \u201cChicago PD,\u201d NBC, 7.23 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n<p>ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co. CBS is owned by CBS Corp. CW is a joint venture of Warner Bros.\u00a0Entertainment\u00a0and CBS Corp. Fox is owned by 21st Century Fox. NBC and Telemundo are owned by Comcast Corp.
