Diokno. Since it\u2019s directed to him, we\u2019ll wait for his response,\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a Palace briefing.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the House panel issued the show-cause order asking Diokno to explain why he should not be cited for contempt for skipping their probe on January 3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will let him decide for himself,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with CNN Philippines, Diokno said that he snubbed the Jan. 3 congressional inquiry \u201cas advised by (the) Palace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo pointed out that Diokno can still seek intervention from President Rodrigo R. Duterte during the next Cabinet meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will leave it to Sec. Diokno, his stand. If he feels that he needs the official intervention of the President then he will raise that in the Cabinet,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo said that the Palace will not oppose the House panel\u2019s move to issue a show-cause order unless there is an abuse in the exercise of questioning Diokno.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst,\u00a0<em>trabaho ng Kongreso yun<\/em>\u00a0(that\u2019s the job of the Congress). Unless there is an abuse of the exercise that is given to them by the Constitution, we will not oppose,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Panelo described the House panel\u2019s show-cause order as \u201cpremature\u201d if Diokno had a valid excuse for not attending the congressional inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Meron siyang excuse e. Sumulat siya. Kung halimbawa meron siyang<\/em>\u00a0previous engagement that\u2019s a valid excuse,\u00a0<em>kung meron siyang sakit<\/em>, that\u2019s a valid excuse (He has an excuse. For example, he has a previous engagement, that\u2019s a valid excise, if he\u2019s sick, that\u2019s a valid excuse),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kung yung<\/em>\u00a0show-cause is based on just because\u00a0<em>di siya naka-attend na valid naman yung\u00a0<\/em>excuse<em>, e\u00a0<\/em>premature<em>\u00a0\u2018yun<\/em>\u00a0(If the show-cause is based on just because he wasn\u2019t able to attend even with a valid excuse, that\u2019s premature). Even then, Sec.
