MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) will invest PHP26.4 billion in the next five years to build new Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and lay sewer lines in Caloocan, Las Pi\u00f1as, Muntinlupa, and Kawit, Cavite.<\/p>\n

These new facilities, which will have a combined treatment capacity of 320 million liters per day (MLD), will remove harmful substances from the wastewater generated by more than two million Maynilad customers, thus helping to reduce pollution loading into water bodies, it said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Of the PHP26.4-billion budget allocation, about PHP16.<\/p>\n

3 billion will be spent for the laying of some 241 km. of new sewer lines, which will convey wastewater from households to Maynilad\u2019s new STPs for treatment.<\/p>\n

Once completed in 2021, these new facilities will expand Maynilad\u2019s sewerage coverage to 47 percent, up from only 6 percent in 2006 before Maynilad was re-privatized.<\/p>\n

The company aims to attain 100 percent sewerage coverage by the end of the concession period in 2037.<\/p>\n

“So far, we have invested PHP23.3 billion to improve the wastewater infrastructure and expand coverage in the West Zone since 2007. By sustaining investments in wastewater projects, we do our part in the clean-up and rehabilitation of Manila Bay, per the Supreme Court Mandamus,\u201d said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S.<\/p>\n
