You work harder so that you can reach your target,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo said high inflation has prevented the government from hitting the economic growth target last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kasi ang tingin ko kung walang\u00a0<\/em>inflation rate<em>\u00a0na nagkaproblema mas mataas pa tayo sa target<\/em>\u00a0(I think if not of the inflation rate problem, we could have exceeded our target,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite slow performance, the country\u2019s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 6.2 percent in 2018, cementing the Philippines\u2019 standing as one of Asia\u2019s fast-growing economies, the government reported Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said 2018 was the seventh consecutive year the Philippine economy sustained its growth of more than 6 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Pernia said economic growth remained stable as it grew 6.1 percent in the fourth quarter last year from the revised 6 percent in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEconomic managers are very confident\u00a0<em>na<\/em>\u00a0(that) we are in the right track,\u201d Panelo told the Palace reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo said the economic managers of President Rodrigo Duterte have been working now to neutralize \u201cthose adverse economic conditions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best is yet to come,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 Malaca\u00f1ang on Thursday said the government will work harder to achieve the economic growth target in 2019.
