(Photo: Con Karampelas\/Unsplash)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">Social networking company Facebook said it has banned digital marketing group Twinmark Media Enterprises and all its subsidiaries from its platform for violating its misrepresentation and spam policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This was announced by Facebook&#8217;s head of Cybersecurity Policy, Nathaniel Gleicher on Friday, January 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In his statement, Gleicher said, Twinmark has &#8220;repeatedly&#8221; violated its policies &#8220;including through coordinated inauthentic behavior, the use of fake accounts, leading people to ad farms, and selling access to Facebook Pages to artificially increase distribution and generate profit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A total of 220 Facebook pages, 73 Facebook accounts, and 29 Instagram accounts affiliated with Twinmark were taken down by Facebook.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to Gleicher, there were about 43 million accounts that followed at least one of the Facebook pages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Some of those pages that have highest number followers were as follows: Filipino Channel Online with 10.4 million, Gorgeous Me with 5.7 million, Unhappy with 4.9 million, Text Message with 4.4 million, and TNP Media with 4.3 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gleicher said Facebook conducted an investigation after they learned that Twinmark was &#8220;selling admin rights to Facebook Pages it had created, in order to increase distribution and generate profit,&#8221; violating Facebook&#8217;s spam policy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;This prompted our teams to take a deeper look at a broader group of Pages and accounts associated with these users, ultimately uncovering a large network of Pages and accounts that were engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior, the use of fake accounts, leading people to ad farms and selling access to Facebook Pages,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He also noted that banning Twinmark from its platform is just one of the many steps they took to prevent users from &#8220;abusing&#8221; Facebook.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;We are continuously working to uncover this kind of abuse, and we know that the people behind it \u2014 whether economically or politically motivated \u2014 will continue to evolve their tactics,&#8221; he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to invest heavily in safety and security in order to ensure that people can continue to trust the connections they make on Facebook,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It can be recalled that last October, Facebook had shutdown a total of 95 online pages and 39 accounts in the Philippines for violating its spam and authenticity policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">[<a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/10\/23\/malacanang-unfazed-removal-pro-duterte-pages-facebook\/\">READ: Malaca\u00f1ang\u00a0unfazed by removal of pro-Duterte pages from Facebook<\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Social networking company Facebook said it has banned digital marketing group Twinmark Media Enterprises and all its subsidiaries from its &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":197334,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95,5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-197333","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","category-technology","mauthors-joanna-belle-deala","mauthors-philippine-canadian-inquirer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/197333","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=197333"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/197333\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/197334"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=197333"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=197333"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=197333"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
