Duterte on Tuesday asked hotels operating near Manila Bay to ensure that there are enough water treatment facilities established in the area or else risk getting a closure.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte made this statement during the Barangay Summit on Peace and Order at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLagyan ninyo ng<\/em>\u00a0water treatment\u00a0<em>yung<\/em>\u00a0hotel\u00a0<em>ninyo kung hindi, sirain ko \u2018yan. Wag mo nga akong hamunin<\/em>\u00a0(Place water treatment facilities in your hotels, if not, I will demolish them. Don\u2019t try me),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou do something about your waste there or otherwise I will close it.<em>\u00a0Sigurado \u2018yan<\/em>\u00a0(That\u2019s for sure),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte made this remark a day after Monday\u2019s Cabinet meeting where the proposal to use road user\u2019s tax to finance the clean-up of Manila Bay was raised.<\/p>\n<p>He said he had already asked Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu and Interior Secretary Eduardo A\u00f1o to spearhead the clean-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Sabi ko kay<\/em>\u00a0Roy Cimatu,\u00a0<em>pati si<\/em>\u00a0Gen. A\u00f1o, (I told Roy Cimatu and even Gen. A\u00f1o) you start cleaning the Manila Bay. They will start to clean it whether they like it or not,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>In a Palace briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the President is likely to issue an executive order for the Manila Bay clean-up.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo also said hotels which violated regulations, particularly on the absence or lack of water treatment facilities, may also face closure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe policy of the government is if you violate certain regulations \u2013 then you have to pay for that.\u00a0<em>Kung ano iyong ginawa natin sa<\/em>Boracay<em>, iyon din ang gagawin natin sa lahat<\/em>\u00a0(What we did in Boracay, that\u2019s what we\u2019ll do everywhere),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>He said according to Cimatu, the goal was to finish the clean-up of Manila Bay by end of the President\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ang<\/em>\u00a0timeline\u00a0<em>ni<\/em>\u00a0Secretary Roy\u2014<em>dahil ang laki ng<\/em>\u00a0Manila Bay<em>\u00a0eh, ang daming<\/em>\u00a0rivers\u00a0<em>na lilinisin, ang daming esteros. Parang<\/em>\u00a0hopefully<em>\u00a0sabi niya<\/em>, at the end of your term\u00a0<em>matatapos \u2018to<\/em>\u00a0(The timeline of Secretary Roy&#8211;because the Manila Bay is large, there are too many rivers to clean, many canals. Hopefully, at the end of the term it will be finished),\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will take some time, but what is important\u00a0<em>is uumpisahan<\/em>\u00a0(we get it started),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said the clean-up may continue even with the succeeding administrations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; President Rodrigo R.
