“#MMFF2018 – Best Picture:
RAINBOW\u2019S SUNSET by Heaven’s Best Entertainment” (Photo<\/a>: CinemaBravo<\/a>\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>The 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries were celebrated during the \u201cGabi ng Parangal\u201d Awards Night last Thursday, December 27 at The Theater at Solaire, with Director Joel Lamangan\u2019s \u201cRainbow\u2019s Sunset\u201d bringing home the most awards at the end of the night.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRainbow\u2019s Sunset,\u201d which revolves around a gay elderly couple, received eleven out of 24 awards, including, Best Picture, Best Director Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, and Best Original Theme Song. Gloria Romero received Best Actress, Tony Mabesa bagged Best Supporting Actor, Aiko Melendez won Best Supporting Actress, while Eddie Garcia and Max Collins both received the Special Jury Prize for the movie.<\/span><\/p>\n

When accepting his Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award on behalf of all artists, Joel Lamagan expressed his thoughts on the local film industry, saying in Filipino, \u201cI hope that the commercial is not the only thing [people] think about. I hope movie\u00a0theaters also respect art and the industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming in at second, receiving five awards is Yam Laranas\u2019 horror\/drama\/thriller \u201cAurora,\u201d starring Anne Curtis. The entry went home with titles Second Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Child Performance by Phoebe Villamor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students from Bulacan State University were present as well to receive their award for Best Short Student Film with their entry \u201cKasilyas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Other MMFF 2018 entries include \u201cFantastica,\u201d \u201cThe Girl in the Orange Dress,\u201d \u201cJack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles,\u201d \u201cMary,\u00a0Marry Me,\u201d \u201cOne Great Love,\u201d and \u201cOtlum.\u201d The 44th edition of the MMFF will continue to show in cinemas until January 7, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
