(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PresSpokespersonPH\/photos\/rpp.396756967326028\/744161135918941\/?type=3&amp;amp;theater\">File Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PresSpokespersonPH\/\">Office of the Presidential Spokesperson\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; Malaca\u00f1ang said most of the killings of journalists in the country are not related to their line of work as media practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>In a press briefing in Malaca\u00f1ang on Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said issues that hound members of the media are personal and do not involve their profession.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From what I gather from those who have been killed,\u00a0<em>may kinalaman sa<\/em>\u00a0personal\u00a0<em>na pamumuhay nila<\/em>\u00a0(it&#8217;s something to do with their personal lives), nothing to do with journalism.\u00a0<em>Meron din<\/em>(There are), one or two,\u00a0<em>pero hindi iyong<\/em>\u00a0(but not), as a rule,&#8221; Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo was reacting to a report from the South East Asia Media Freedom, showing the Philippines as among the worst countries for journalists in Southeast Asia due to impunity, threat to their safety and censorship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For instance\u00a0<em>sinasabi nila na ni<\/em>\u00a0(Maria) Ressa (of Rappler)\u00a0<em>na demanda, eh iyon namang mga iyon eh<\/em>\u00a0nothing to do with freedom of expression\u00a0<em>eh<\/em>\u00a0(they cite Maria Ressa&#8217;s case, that has nothing to do with freedom of expression).You violate a law you cannot be immune from prosecution and,\u00a0<em>binibigyan naman siya ng<\/em>\u00a0due process<em>\u00a0at nakalabas nga siya eh<\/em>\u00a0(she is being given due process, she even went out on bail),&#8221; Panelo said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Thursday, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said the Philippines has been removed from the top five most dangerous countries for journalists in 2018 in the annual report of media freedom organization Reporters Without Borders.<\/p>\n<p>Andanar attributed the delisting to President Rodrigo R.
