(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/themanilacathedral\/photos\/pcb.2308359189442363\/2308358929442389\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Photo<\/a> by Lorenzo Atienza via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/themanilacathedral\">The Manila Cathedral\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Catholics prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ through the traditional <em>Simbang Gabi<\/em>, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on the first night of the nine chose to talk about power play, bullying, and insecurities and how these are connected to unhappiness.<\/p>\n<p>Tagle was quoting Saint Paul\u2019s advice on attaining happiness, when he described as something in Jesus\u2019 era but seemed to be written \u2018just like yesterday.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Pareho pa rin ang sikreto ng kaligayahan; huwag kang mangmamaliit<\/em> (The secret to happiness is still the same [then and now]: do not belittle others),\u201d he said on Sunday, December 16.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Hindi por que mayroon kang posisyon, ikaw ay may karapatan na para mangyurak ng kapwa<\/em> (Just because you have a position, this does not give you the right to destroy other people),\u201d the prelate added.<\/p>\n<p>The Manila Archbishop also called those \u2018bullies\u2019 who abuse their powers to belittle others as people who are the most scared and insecure.<\/p>\n<p>This time, quoting St. John the Baptist, Tagle said that one should not bully anyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Huwag mong gagagamitin ang iyong kapangyarihan mambastos. Huwag mong gagamitin ang iyong kapangyarihan para piitin o i-coerce ang iba. Huwag mong gamitin ang iyong armas para magparatang ng hindi totoo<\/em> (Do not use your power to be vulgar. Do not use your power to coerce others. Do not use your arms to spread distorted truths),\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>Tagle further said that <em>&#8220;Ang taong mapayapa sa sarili, ang taong maligaya, hindi kailanman magyayabang kasi maligaya siya sa Panginoon. Ang maligaya sa Panginoon, ipagyayabang niya ang Panginoon<\/em> (A person who is at peace with himself, a person who is happy will never boast because he is happy with the Lord. Someone who is happy with the Lord, will only boast the Lord).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though\u00a0 no political figures were mentioned, Tagle\u2019s sermon came after the recent verbal attacks of President Rodrigo Duterte to the Church.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this December, Duterte in a speech said \u201cuseless\u201d Catholic bishops who slam his administration should just die.<\/p>\n<p>[READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/12\/06\/duterte-blasts-church-anew-says-useless-bishops-should-be-killed\/\">Duterte blasts Church anew, says \u2018useless\u2019 bishops should be killed<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Itong mga obispo ninyo, patayin ninyo. Walang silbi \u2018yang mga g******* \u2018yan <\/em>(Your bishops, kill them. Those idiots are useless).
