Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri said the upper house will be filing a resolution urging the Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate the killing of prominent businessman Dominic Sytin who was shot dead on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

“We condemn the killing of Dominic. The senators committed last night to file a resolution to urge the PNP to fully investigate this and catch the perpetrators,” Zubiri said during Kapihan sa Senado on Thursday, November 29.<\/p>\n

“In our Viber chat group, we have a vibrant discussion on how we should put a stop in the culture of impunity,” he added.<\/p>\n

Reports said Sytin, chief executive officer (CEO) of United Auctioneers Incorporated (UAI), was about to enter a hotel in Subic when an unidentified assailant gunned him down, hitting the back and left side of his head.<\/p>\n

Sytin’s bodyguard, Efren Espartero, tried to fight back, but the suspect attacked him too.<\/p>\n

The businessman was dead on the spot, while Espartero was rushed to a nearest hospital.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairperson Wilma Eisma told DZMM that the assailant waited hours to kill Sytin, whom she addressed as a friend.<\/p>\n

“Siya po ay inabangan sa isang<\/i> hotel kung saan siya natutulog <\/i>(The suspect waited for Sytin in a hotel where he sleeps.).<\/i> [It is] very calculated. It’s a very professional risk. Mahigit dalawang oras pong hinintay ang pagbaba ni<\/i> Dominic (He waited for more than two hours for Dominic to come down),” Eisma said.<\/p>\n

The SBMA head earlier ordered the lockdown of the Subic Freeport and directed the SBMA special weapons and tactics (SWAT) to tighten the security at all the gates.<\/p>\n

Eisma also added that the SBMA is already working with the PNP and other investigating units to catch the perpetrators.<\/p>\n

Aside from the senators, The Lady Fighting Maroons, the women’s volleyball team of the University of the Philippines (UP) which UAI is the principal sponsor, also expressed condolences to Sytin’s family.<\/p>\n

“He has been and will continue to be the driving force of this team. He has supported us and believed in us when no one else would,” it said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
