During her visit she met with small business stakeholders in several communities across the province to highlight the importance of export and entrepreneurship and promote the benefits of exporting for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).<\/p>\n<p>In Vancouver, Minister Ng met with board members of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiapacific.ca\/\">Asia Pacific Foundation<\/a>\u00a0to discuss the importance of trade and of supporting Canadian SMEs looking to export. She participated in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetro.go.jp\/canada\/events\/current.html\">Japan-Canada Innovation Partnership Forum<\/a>\u00a0hosted by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetro.go.jp\/en\/\">Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)<\/a>. She then spoke about the Government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ic.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/107.nsf\/eng\/home\">Women Entrepreneurship Strategy<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boardoftrade.com\/\">Greater Vancouver Board of Trade<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weforshe.ca\/\">WE FOR SHE<\/a>\u00a0conference. Finally, Minister Ng met with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcibn.com\/\">BC-India Business Network<\/a>\u00a0to talk about how the Government of Canada is supporting small businesses looking to access new markets.<\/p>\n<p>While in British Columbia, Minister Ng also met with members of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vernonchamber.ca\/\">Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce<\/a>\u00a0and participated in an export promotion roundtable at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accelerateokanagan.com\/\">Accelerate Okanagan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>Quotes<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCompanies that export are more productive, pay higher wages and invest more in research and development. However, only 12% of Canadian small and medium-sized businesses are exporting. This represents a big opportunity. Our government is promoting export opportunities so that British Columbia\u2019s small and medium-sized businesses can unlock the economic potential of trade deals like the Canada\u2013European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and the United States\u2013Mexico\u2013Canada Agreement and the global customer base they provide.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Quick facts<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) account for the vast majority of businesses in Canada\u201499.8%.
