Yay!<\/p>\n<p>Our movie dates and random activities for the day are usually followed by a (self-imposed) quest to locate a new and unique restaurant. If we are in a mall, we will go to all the floor levels just to find the perfect food for our fuming-grumbling tummy (we only eat a little prior to going to a restaurant, because we are, well, sort of getting ready for a battle).<\/p>\n<p>Our favorite, tickling our palates by going on food trips around the world without leaving the sweet confines of (beautiful, hot, traffic-infested) Manila.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/oodys-bagoong-thai-rice.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1892\" alt=\"oody's bagoong thai rice\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/oodys-bagoong-thai-rice.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/oodys-bagoong-thai-rice.jpg 960w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/oodys-bagoong-thai-rice-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h6>Oody\u2019s Bar and Restaurant\u2014Thai Food<\/h6>\n<p>Being a Bicolano, my husband is a fan of spicy food, so we decided to try this Thai restaurant at Greenbelt 3\u2014<i>Oody\u2019s Bar and Restaurant.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I was personally enticed by its relaxing ambience, and the lighted candles on the dining tables. First off, we tried their <i>Pandan Iced Tea<\/i>. Its taste was a mixture of herbal tea touched by pandan, and it was a great way to start our dinner (we are avid tea drinkers!). Then, we ordered <i>Bagoong Thai Rice and Thai Curry<\/i> for our main dishes\u2014also the restaurant\u2019s best sellers.<\/p>\n<p><i>Bagoong Thai Rice<\/i> is sprinkled with a variety of vegetables and <i>itlog na maalat (salty egg), <\/i>a fusion of Thai and Filipino cuisines and good for sharing. Though almost full after our first dish, we attacked our our second dish with equivalent fervor\u2014<i>Thai Curry<\/i>. It is really spicy, but is satisfying to the palate.<\/p>\n<p>We thought we were done, but our tummy echoed that we still want a dessert (yes), so we had our final order\u2014<i>Thai Halo-Halo, <\/i>which is served in a bowl of crushed ice with cream, with beans, nata de coco, and 2 fruit flavors, all separated in 4 small cups.<i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Unlike the <i>Pinoy Halo-Halo<\/i>, it is not so sweet, but is like \u00a0drinking sweet tea with flavored sliced fruits.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/jambalaya_gumbo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1891\" alt=\"jambalaya_gumbo\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/jambalaya_gumbo.jpg\" width=\"704\" height=\"473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/jambalaya_gumbo.jpg 704w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/jambalaya_gumbo-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h6>Gumbo, A Taste of New Orleans<\/h6>\n<p>My husband told me that this restaurant is \u201ca fusion of West African, French, Spanish, German, and Choctaw culinary cultures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After only a couple of visits, Gumbo has been one of our favorite restaurants. I personally find their recipes as \u201cdefinitely tasteful\u201d. One of the restaurant\u2019s main attractions is also its crews wearing entertaining headdresses. (customers can also wear the headdresses and have their pictures taken).<\/p>\n<p>Your visit to Gumbo would not be complete if you don\u2019t experience their classic <i>Seafood Jambalaya.<\/i> It contains mussels, clams, squids and shrimps. The seafoods blend well with the Cajun spices. It really has strong flavors! I can really say that the rice itself is as good as one full meal.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a meat lover, you will like their <i>Pizza Meat Extravaganza<\/i>. But it is hefty, and heavy, I don\u2019t think you can still squeeze in one more full meal after finishing it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/seoul-garden-hotpot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1890\" alt=\"seoul garden hotpot\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/seoul-garden-hotpot.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/seoul-garden-hotpot.jpg 960w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/seoul-garden-hotpot-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h6>Seoul Garden Hotpot\u2014Korean Food<b><\/b><\/h6>\n<p>After hearing good reviews from friends and foodies, saying that it offers authentic but affordable Korean cuisine, we opted to try <i>Seoul Garden HotPot.<\/i> Seoul Garden Hotpot offers an array of authentic Korean dishes like\u00a0<i>Bibimbaps, Hot Pot<\/i> and <i>Jjigae sets<\/i>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting Korean foodies, \u201cAn authentic Korean restaurant not only offers <i>Kimchi <\/i>(a traditional fermented side dish made of vegetables with a variety of seasonings).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They serve carrot, cucumber and radish as free appetizers. What we ordered: <i>one beef and one chicken\u00a0bulgogi\u00a0bap\u00a0with\u00a0gochujang\u00a0on the side<\/i>, which is good for sharing, and <i>Korean coleslaw salad<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Lightness<\/i>\u2014this may be the fitting term upon finishing our Korean food. The flavors and sauces blended just well. Anyone who wants to munch on a healthy but delicious meal will surely enjoy <i>Seoul Garden Hotpot<\/i> offerings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kimono-ken.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1889\" alt=\"kimono ken\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kimono-ken.jpg\" width=\"765\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kimono-ken.jpg 765w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kimono-ken-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 765px) 100vw, 765px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h6>Kimono Ken\u2014Japanese Food<\/h6>\n<p>Kimono Ken may be one of the most affordable Japanese restaurants in Manila. Having dined at other Japanese restaurants on special occasions, we could probably say that the taste of Kimono Ken resembles that of other authentic Japanese restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>Our personal favorites include <i>California Maki, tuna sashimi platter and beef teriyaki<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mangan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1888\" alt=\"mangan\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mangan.jpg\" width=\"520\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mangan.jpg 520w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mangan-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h6>Mangan\u2014Filipino Food<\/h6>\n<p>It was a refreshing sight to behold a Filipino restaurant amidst foreign restaurants at the SM Mall of Asia. Craving for \u201clutong bahay\u201d (home-cooked dishes), we entered <i>Mangan\u2014<\/i>which is the <i>Kapampangan<\/i> word for <i>eat.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Some of the menu are also categorized in <i>Kapampangan<\/i>: <i>Ispesyal Ning Bale, Ispesyal na handa at Mula Dagat (House Specialty, Special Offering, and From the Sea).<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Their best sellers include<i> Queso de bola and salted egg, Puto Bumbong with grated coconut and mascuvado, tofu sisig, sisig ni Mely, Pritong manok (fried chicken), Lechon Kawali (deep fried pork liempo), garlic pugo (quail), Pritong tilapia (fried St. Peter\u2019s fish), Pritong biya at sari-saring sawsawan ( variety of condiments).<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Here are some tips to make your food trips more satisfying:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Research ahead. Restaurant review sites such as <i>Zomato,Yelp, Open Table, Urban Spoon, Menu Pages, Restaurantica and Yahoo! Local<\/i> are just some websites you can visit to locate the restaurant that would satisty your palate.<\/li>\n<li>Be an Inquirer. Do not think twice about asking the origin and best sellers of the restaurant. By doing so, you will appreciate the food better. The best person to ask is the restaurant manager. Don\u2019t be hesitant, I am sure he\/she will be glad to answer your questions.<\/li>\n<li>Be adventurous. Frog legs, deep fried crickets, ant eggs, or spicy food for that matter, may not be as unsavory as you think. You might even enjoy it. And well, we only live once.
