Puno, one of the pioneers of soul music in the Philippines, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo expresses Malaca\u00f1ang\u2019s grief towards the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon\u2019s passing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a Palace briefing on Tuesday, October 30, Panelo responded to the news about the singer\u2019s cardiac arrest, saying, \u201cWe express our condolences to the legend that is Rico J. Puno. He has contributed a lot in the music industry.\u201d He further shares that Rico is a \u201cpersonal friend\u201d and that they \u201chad a duet four years ago\u201d on his show. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senator Tito Sotto also shares his take on the news, telling the media, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We started calling him \u2018the total entertainer\u2019 even from his Spindle days. He not only sang well but was witty and all.\u201d He concludes, \u201cSeldom would you find a local pop singer\u2019s album in their homes, the songs and albums of Rico we produced and released paved the way for the Filipino artist to be accepted in high society then. Rico will now be performing for a far Greater Audience. Goodbye, my Friend.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides later becoming a Makati City councillor, Rico is most known for pioneering OPM hits through his tracks including \u201cKapalaran,\u201d \u201cBuhat,\u201d \u201cMacho Gwapito,\u201d \u201cLupa,\u201d \u201cDamdamin,\u201d and \u201cMay Bukas Pa.\u201d He was supposed to have a concert this month, but news of Rico\u2019s passing was announced this morning by his longtime manager Norma Japitana. His sister Anna Puno also took to Instagram to share her mourning, sending a message to \u201call entertainers in the OPM Industry as well as his worldwide fans,\u201d saying, \u201cStop for a moment and say a prayer to one of the most respected singers in the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rico&#8217;s passing left his wife Doris and his four children, namely, Tosca, Rox, Erica, and Doki.
