{"id":187578,"date":"2018-10-30T02:07:37","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T06:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=187578"},"modified":"2018-10-30T02:07:37","modified_gmt":"2018-10-30T06:07:37","slug":"local-markets-slower-us-gdp-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/10\/30\/local-markets-slower-us-gdp-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Local markets up on slower US GDP report"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_154670\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-154670\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/business-1730089_1280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-154670 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/business-1730089_1280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/business-1730089_1280.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/business-1730089_1280-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-154670\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) gained 0.63 percent, or 44.70 points, to 7,109.03 points, which Regina Capital Managing Director Luis Limlingan pointed to \u201cearly window dressing.\u201d (Pixabay photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Philippine financial market began the trading week on a positive note, an apparent windfall from the slow down of the US economy in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) gained 0.63 percent, or 44.70 points, to 7,109.03 points, which Regina Capital Managing Director Luis Limlingan pointed to \u201cearly window dressing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This, he said, \u201cas investors questioned the growth sustainability of the largest economy\u201d following the release of US gross domestic product (GDP) report for the third quarter at 3.5 percent from 4.2 percent in the previous quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Limlingan said both the S&amp;P 500 and Dow ended last week\u2019s trading down \u201cas doubts about whether equities can count on support from corporate earnings emerged in the wake of disappointing results from a handful of megacap companies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amid these doubts, most of the counters in the local bourse ended the week\u2019s first trading day with gains, with the broader All Shares up by 0.48 percent, or 20.80 points, to 4,353.39 points.<\/p>\n<p>Financials led the sectors with a jump of 1.36 percent and was followed by Holding Firms, 0.69 percent; Services, 0.66 percent; Mining and Oil, 0.61 percent; and Industrial, 0.56 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Only Property ended on the red after it lost 0.49 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Volume reached 552.99 million shares amounting to PHP4.23 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Gainers regained their footing and surpassed losers at 97 to 78 while 45 shares were unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>Relatively, the peso improved against the greenback after finishing the day at 53.56 from 53.64 at the end of last week\u2019s trading.<\/p>\n<p>Landbank market economist Guain Angelo S.
