Even more, marking history as the first <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 16px;\">transgender woman<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> to win the award in Philippine Cinema.\u00a0<\/span>Iyah starred in the film as Mamu, a transgender sex worker who just wanted to have breast implants until her sister died, and she had to take the responsibility of being a mother to her sister\u2019s orphaned transgender daughter. The story follows Mamu\u2019s struggle in becoming a mother to her niece who follows the same path as hers.<\/p>\n<p>The actress was in tears as she received her award on the stage of Dolphy Theatre. \u201c<em>Ito po ay para sa <\/em>(This is for the) trans community, <em>sa<\/em> (for) LGBTQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer). <em>Para sa atin \u2018to<\/em>\u00a0(This is for us). Celebrate <em>natin ang<\/em> equality (Let us celebrate equality),\u201d she said in her speech as her fellow LGBTQ friends cheered for her from the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>With this win from a transgender woman, Cinema One celebrated gender equality with their congratulatory Facebook post, \u201cMore than just celebrating #IAmOriginal, we also celebrate equality! Today, we made history as Iyah Mina is the first transgender woman to win Best Actress in the Philippine Cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the \u2018Best Actress\u2019 award, the film also got the \u2018Audience Choice Award.\u2019 Arron Villaflor, who played the role of Iyah\u2019s lover in the film, won the \u2018Best Supporting Actor\u2019 award.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mamu, and a mother too\u2019 is a comedy-drama directed by Rod Singh.
