The Philippine Superliga (PSL) is one of the official finalists for Best Women\u2019s Sports Event (Team or Individual) at the Sports Industry Awards (SPIA) Asia 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n

Superliga is the only Philippine nomination for the event, which is considered as the \u201cOscar Awards of Sports in Asia.\u201d The PSL held a press conference on Thursday, October 18, to announce the news. PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico expressed her excitement about the nomination, stating, \u201cThis is the first time in the history of Philippine sports and Philippine volleyball that the PSL was named finalist in this category.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

She said that it is \u201ca distinction for the team,\u201d elaborating, \u201cWe\u2019re proud of it because it validates and strengthens our honest hard work and sincere advocacy and it inspires us to face the challenges in front of us.\u201d According to the Juico, this is \u201cthe first time an organization from the Philippines has been nominated in the category.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Also on the nomination list vying for the award include Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women\u2019s Asian Cup from Jordan, AFC Women\u2019s Futsal Championship from Thailand, Asia Women\u2019s Hockey Champions Trophy in Korea, Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals from Singapore, CFC Foundation and UNDP Global Goals Women\u2019s World Cup from Thailand, Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open from UAE, HSBC Women\u2019s World Championship from Singapore, Japan Women\u2019s Sevens from Japan, and Women\u2019s Twenty20 Asia Cup from Malaysia.<\/span><\/p>\n

The announcement of the winner is happening during the SPIA Industry Awards and Conference at Centralworld, Bangkok, from October 19-20.<\/span><\/p>\n

The news about Superliga\u2019s nomination welcomes the league\u2019s opening on October 30 at the Filoil Flying V Center and the Collegiate GS. Games kick off on November 3 at Ynares Sports. A total of eight teams are participating, namely: F2 Logistics, Smart Giga Hitters, Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, Petron Blaze Spikers, Generika Ayala Lifesavers, Cignal HD Spikers, Cocolife Asset Managers, and Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
