( YANCY LIM\/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; Malaca\u00f1ang on Thursday defended economic managers\u2019 recent trip to United Kingdom (UK), stressing that the trip was meant to encourage foreign investments.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was reacting to criticisms that the economic team\u2019s trip was ill-timed amid the country\u2019s rising inflation rates and high prices of goods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Nandoon sila for a reason \u2013 kinakailangan pong i-promote ang Pilipinas as an investment destination<\/em>\u00a0(They are there for a reason \u2013 they need to promote the Philippines as an investment destination),\u201d Roque said in a Palace briefing.<\/p>\n<p>He added that their trip was \u201cjustified\u201d because it was meant to resolve not just inflation, but threats to the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kung hindi po natin ibebenta ang ating bayan, hindi naman po pupunta rito ang mga namumuhunan<\/em>\u00a0(If we don\u2019t promote our country, investors won\u2019t come here),\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the trip could also help provide more jobs to Filipinos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>At kapag naman po sila ay nakakalap ng investors, magkakaroon tayo ng mas maraming trabaho, mas maraming kapital at mas maraming kita para sa mga Pilipino<\/em>\u00a0(And if we get investors, we\u2019ll have more jobs, more capital, and more income for Filipinos),\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>So sa tingin ko po, very well-justified po iyong presensiya, lalung-lalo na ng mga<\/em>\u00a0(I think their presence is very well justified, especially the) economic managers because they are marketing the Philippines,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Roque, meanwhile, tagged those criticizing the economic team\u2019s trip as \u201cdilawan (yellows).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Hindi po mawawala ang mga tumutuligsa; ang tawag sa kanila ay dilawan<\/em>\u00a0(Critics won\u2019t go away; they\u2019re called yellows),\u201d he said, referring to the color of the opposition Liberal Party.<\/p>\n<p>The UK delegation is composed of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, Transport Secretary Art Tugade, and Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, among others.<\/p>\n<p>They flew to UK to attend the Philippine Economic briefing, a three-day mission to brief British investors on the vast business opportunities in the Philippines\u2019 infrastructure, energy and tourism sectors and to explore ways to expand economic cooperation between Manila and London.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Department of Finance, UK is among the country\u2019s top 10 sources of foreign direct investments.<\/p>\n<p>Dominguez earlier expressed hope that there would be more investment flows from the UK due to Duterte administration\u2019s implementation of policy and infrastructure reforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; Malaca\u00f1ang on Thursday defended economic managers\u2019 recent trip to United Kingdom (UK), stressing that the trip was meant to &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":146495,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-183288","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-azer-parrocha","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/183288","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=183288"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/183288\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/146495"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=183288"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=183288"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=183288"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
