(PNA file photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Former Senate president Aquilino &#8220;Nene&#8221; Pimentel Jr. on Friday urged the youth to reject any move to revise the true story of martial law.<\/p>\n<p>Pimentel made this comment in reaction to the claim of Juan Ponce Enrile, former Senate leader, that no one was arrested for their political beliefs during the administration of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAng masasabi ko na lang sa ating mga kabataan na huwag kayong magpadala sa mga<\/em>\u00a0opinion<em>\u00a0ng ibang mga tao<\/em>\u00a0who really have hidden agenda (What I can say to our youth, do not be influenced by opinions of people who really have hidden agenda),\u201d Pimentel said in a Palace press briefing on federalism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the hidden agenda is to justify the excesses of the martial law regime and to show that they should therefore be given a chance to serve our people through the elections that are forth coming,\u00a0<em>huwag nating pahintulutan iyan<\/em>\u00a0(do not allow them),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Pimentel did not name names but Enrile made such claim while being interviewed by Marcos\u2019 son Bongbong Marcos on the eve of the 46th anniversary of the martial law declaration.<\/p>\n<p>Marcos, a former senator, ran but narrowly lost to Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Asked to comment on Enrile\u2019s remark, Pimentel said: \u201c<em>Siguro nakalimutan na niya ako<\/em>. (Perhaps he\u2019s already forgotten about me). That\u2019s a part of aging, part of aging\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not take that against him and let the people judge who is right or who is wrong,\u201d Pimentel said.<\/p>\n<p>He disagreed with Enrile but added that\u00a0<em>\u201cManong<\/em>\u00a0Johnny is entitled to his opinion. He has always been a defender of martial rule\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>During the martial law years, Pimentel said he was put into high security detention and mixed with hardened criminals for three months after he refused to sign a document expressing his support for Marcos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, anyway, part of life and I look forward, I do not desire to take revenge against anyone. I\u2019m only trying to say\u00a0<em>\u2018huwag nating gayahin iyong masamang mga leksiyon na napulot natin<\/em>\u00a0during martial law\u2019. (Let\u2019s not follow the bad lessons that we learned during martial law),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Pimentel agreed with Enrile that the situation was really chaotic when Marcos put the entire nation under martial law on September 21, 1972.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it does not mean that the entire nation should have been placed under martial law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAng daming namatay, ang daming<\/em>\u00a0disappeared\u00a0<em>na mga kababayan natin<\/em>. So,<em>\u00a0iyan ang dapat ibigay natin siguro na pangungusap sa mga<\/em>millennials<em>\u00a0na, uy dahan-dahan po kayo sapagkat<\/em>\u00a0(Many of our countrymen died and disappeared.
