MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— Malaca\u00f1ang on Friday refuted opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros\u2019 \u201cdestabilizer-in-chief\u201d remark against President Rodrigo R. Duterte, saying the chief executive continues to gain high public acceptance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is ironic that Senator Risa Hontiveros, who spends so much of her time undermining the efforts of this administration, would refer to the President as \u2018destabilizer-in-chief\u2019,\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Last Thursday, Hontiveros hit Duterte for accusing the opposition of plotting moves to unseat him.<\/p>\n

Roque defended Duterte, saying the President has made \u201csignificant strides\u201d in his election promises to fight illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is high public appreciation and acceptance of his actions,\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n
