(Pixabay photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The province of Saskatchewan has issued its first invitations to Express Entry candidates through the new Expression of Interest system introduced in July, and revised its In-Demand Occupation List in the process.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 466 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination were issued to candidates\u00a0in the\u00a0Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/sinp-international-skilled-worker-category.html#InternationalSkilledWorker-SaskatchewanExpressEntry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Express Entry sub-category<\/a>\u00a0in this first draw. The minimum score was 68.<\/p>\n<p>In its update, the SINP said all Expressions of Interest selected had an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/educational-credential-assessment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Educational Credential Assessment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Express Entry candidates who apply for and receive a provincial nomination from Saskatchewan are awarded an additional 600 points toward their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/express-entry-comprehensive-ranking-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comprehensive Ranking System<\/a>\u00a0(CRS) score.<\/p>\n<p>In order to be eligible for the SINP\u2019s Express Entry sub-category, Express Entry candidates must register an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the SINP and are assigned\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/sinp-international-skilled-worker-category.html#pointassessgrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a ranking score out of 100<\/a>\u00a0based on their answers to questions concerning work experience, education and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.<\/p>\n<p>Eligibility criteria for the SINP\u2019s Express Entry sub-category include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A score of at least 60 points out of 100 on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/sinp-international-skilled-worker-category.html#pointassessgrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SINP\u2019s points assessment grid<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Post-secondary education, training or apprenticeship of at least one year in length that resulted in a diploma, certificate or degree.\n<ul>\n<li>Degrees and diplomas obtained outside Canada must be accompanied by an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a designated organization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have work experience in a high-skilled occupation in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) that is designated\u00a0Skill Type O, Skill Level A or Skill Level B and is found on Saskatchewan\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/sinp-international-skilled-worker-category.html#In-DemandOccupationList\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In-Demand Occupations List<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>Candidates must show proof of professional status or licensure for regulated occupations or those with professional certification standards in Canada and\/or Saskatchewan if required by their occupation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first step toward pursuing the SINP\u2019s Express Entry sub-category is to enter a profile in the federal government\u2019s Express Entry pool.<\/p>\n<h3>Updated In-Demand Occupations<\/h3>\n<p>In its update on the draw, the SINP announced that it had revised the\u00a0In-Demand Occupations List in order to ensure that \u201cnominees with positive employment prospects in Saskatchewan are selected and nominations do no exceed employment demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The In-Demand Occupations List applies to both the SINP\u2019s Express Entry and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/sinp-international-skilled-worker-category.html#InternationalSkilledWorker-OccupationsIn-Demand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Occupations In-Demand<\/a>\u00a0sub-categories.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 22 in-demand occupations on Saskatchewan\u2019s updated In-Demand Occupations List, three do not require candidates to obtain specific professional licensure. The Government of Saskatchewan requires\u00a0professional licensure from the relevant organizations for the remaining 19 occupations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No license required<\/strong><\/p>\n<table technicians and specialists<\/li>\n<li>NOC 4162 \u2013\u00a0Economists and economic policy researchers and analysts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The SINP has expanded, and contracted, its eligible occupation list at different times based on the applications it received and labour market demand.<\/p>\n<p>SINP profiles are valid for one year. The SINP said the profiles of candidates whose occupations have been removed from the list will remain valid for that period and \u201ccould be pulled in another EOI draw if the occupation becomes in-demand once again<em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>EOI system focused on \u2018strong economic outcomes\u2019 of selected candidates<\/h3>\n<p>The move to an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/saskatchewan-expression-of-interest-eoi-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Expression of Interest (EOI)<\/a>\u00a0system in July brought an end to the first-come, first-served model that Saskatchewan had used for its Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories, which shut the door to many qualified applicants who couldn\u2019t get their applications in on time.<\/p>\n<p>Saskatchewan said the switch to an EOI system will now allow the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/saskatchewan-provincial-nominee-program.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SINP<\/a>\u00a0to better target those most likely to succeed in Saskatchewan\u2019s labour market. As the SINP says on the webpage outlining the new system, \u201ca goal of the EOI system is to ensure strong economic outcomes and long-term retention in Saskatchewan for those invited to apply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The SINP says the size and frequency of EOI selections will be determined by its application inventory needs.<\/p>\n<p>Draws will take place on a monthly basis, at minimum, the SINP says. The dates of the selections will not be posted.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a hypothetical example of a candidate invited in this first Express Entry EOI draw:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacklyn<\/strong>\u00a0is 34, has a high-intermediate English language proficiency and has been working as an Early Childhood Educator for eight years. She holds a Master\u2019s degree and has never worked or studied in Canada.
