It was on the same day 147 years ago when the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada became united to become one nation. In short, it was the day when Canada became Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s birthday is usually celebrated with barbecue parties, concerts, parades, picnics, and fireworks displays. You can show your true patriot love on Canada Day by partaking in the celebrations in your own city. However, if you and your family want to take part in the nation\u2019s biggest birthday party, then there\u2019s no better place to go but Ottawa, where festivities will run from morning till night.<\/p>\n<p>The Capital\u2019s Canada Day celebrations will take place at the following sites:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parliament Hill<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The celebration on the Hill will begin with a flag-raising ceremony at 9 a.m. and the Changing of the Guard at 9:30 a.m. Concerts, shows, performances, and dance workshops will follow. In the afternoon, the Canadian Armed Forces will also be presenting \u201cImages from Afghanistan,\u201d a selection of photos from the last 100 days of Canada\u2019s military mission in Afghanistan. \u00a0The Hill is also where Olympian Clara Hughes will end her journey to\u00a0complete a 70-km cross country ride to promote mental health awareness. Don\u2019t forget to stay for the pyrotechnics show, which will light the skies over the Ottawa River, starting at 10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Hill\u2019s Park<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Major Hill\u2019s Park will be divided into four zones on Canada Day. Each zone will feature a variety of cultural performances, displays and activities for any kind of spectator. \u00a0Major Hill\u2019s Park is located in the heart of downtown Ottawa and is close to Parliament Hill, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Byward Market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacques-Cartier Park<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If making your kids happy is a priority during your trip in the Capital, then, turn Canada Day into a play day by bringing your kids to Jacques-Cartier Park. The Canada Day activities at this site will include fun games, physical activities, performances, face painting, and inflatable slides. Jacques-Cartier Park is located in Gatineau, next to the Canadian Museum of History. You can take the free Canada Day shuttle from Major Hill\u2019s Park to get to this location.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the three major sites, there will also be free activities for your whole family to enjoy at most of the National Capital Region\u2019s museums and institutions all day long.
