MANILA — Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel A. Roxas on Monday underscored the need to strengthen police-community relations (PCR) to effectively fight crime and protect the people against lawless elements who are out to disrupt peace and order in the communities.<\/p>\n

Roxas said that together, the police and the people in the community can win the war against crime and challenged the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to further empower the community through various programs that promote the people\u2019s active involvement in the campaign against criminality.<\/p>\n

Roxas, along with PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima and Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino, acting director for Police-Community Relations, led the awarding ceremony to honor PNP units, personnel and individuals in police community relations during the 19th Police Community-Relations Month celebration at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame with the theme: \u201cPinaigting na Samahan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya Para sa Patuloy na Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran ng Sambayanan.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s awardees are the La Union Provincial Police, Jasaan Municipal Police Station in Misamis Oriental, and Santa Rosa City Police Station in Laguna for the police unit category; PO3 Maria Caridad Godoy, chief of the PCR section of the San Fernando City Police Office in La Union; Senior Insp. Rolando Libed, chief of Administrative & PCR of the San Pablo City Police Station in Laguna for the individual category.<\/p>\n

Leading this year\u2019s Directorate for Police Community Relations awardees are Chief Insp. Roberto Aldea, Outstanding Police Community Officer of the Year; SPO1 Michael Mendones, 2014 Outstanding PNCO.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Perlita Hermnado is awarded with the 2014 Outstanding NUP of the Year for Supervisory Level; Irma Villa, Outstanding NUP Award for Non-supervisory Level; and Isagani Herrera, Loyalty Award.<\/p>\n

Santa Rosa City, Laguna Mayor Arlene Arcillas, was awarded as Outstanding Local Chief Executive during the same event.<\/p>\n

In his brief message during the program, Roxas congratulated the awardees and described them as \u201cassets to our law enforcement and peace-keeping initiatives. We are proud to have you among our ranks. We hope that your example and dignified service inspires our entire police force and leads to a more peaceful, stable society that all our countrymen can benefit from.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also commended the PNP for its theme for this year\u2019s celebration that calls for renewed engagement between the police force and the citizenry.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
