This requirement will be extended to Asia, Asia-Pacific and the Americas on December 31, 2018.(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2018\/07\/canadas-new-biometrics-rules-start-july-31-heres-what-you-need-to-know-0710947.html#gs.2fAELjw\">Photo: CIC News<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Starting July 31, fingerprints and a photo will become mandatory for many people applying from Europe, the Middle East and Africa for a Canadian visitor visa, work or study permit, permanent residence or for asylum in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Known as biometrics, the fingerprints and photo will be required for identification purposes. This requirement will be extended to Asia, Asia-Pacific and the Americas on December 31, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Travellers from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/electronic-travel-authorization-eta-canadian-immigration-visitor-visa-exemptions.html#etacountrychecklist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visa-exempt countries<\/a>\u00a0who are coming to Canada as tourists with a valid\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/electronic-travel-authorization-eta-canadian-immigration-visitor-visa-exemptions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)<\/a>\u00a0will not be required to provide biometrics.
