Before we know it, Philippine elections will be around the corner.

Speculations are flying, as they would, about who’s running for nation’s top spots.

Among those mentioned as potential “presidentiable” is Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of the late dictator, Ferdinand Marcos.

In a Pulse Asia survey done in March, Marcos came in at no. 6 as potential presidential pick of the respondents.

Marcos, however, has said that he is “keeping his options open,” for now, and that running for the country’s highest seat is still “far from his mind.”

“Hindi pa panahon para pag-isipan ang mga ganyan. Saka na muna ‘yung mga tungkol sa sarili namin. Tapusin muna namin ang mga kailangan gawin. There is a lot that needs to be done for the remainder of the year. There is no time or there is no space in our working lives—at least in mine—to be discussing that or to be planning that or to be campaigning,” he said.

Marcos’ Senate term expires in 2016 and is eligible to run for reelection. He explained, “Of course, when 2016 comes, I will be a candidate. The obvious thing for me to do is to run for reelection. Nababanggit ang higher office but as I said, hindi pa naman panahon para pag-usapan ‘yan because as I said, masyado pang maraming kailangan gawin.”

The year 2016 may seem far off, but we all know how quickly time flies.
