(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Wynmarquezofficialfanpage\/photos\/a.128348120546288.17790.122724947775272\/1548838551830564\/?type=1&amp;amp;theater\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Wynmarquezofficialfanpage\/\">Winwyn Marquez (official Fanpage)\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before other people could get the wrong idea, Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita Ssen \u201cWinwyn\u201d Marquez immediately presented a disclaimer that her views on transgender women joining the Miss Universe pageant does not mean that she is against transgenders.<\/p>\n<p>The entertainment press asked Winwyn for her opinion on the notion of transgender women competing for the Miss Universe crown, after Angela Ponce, a transgender woman was crowned as Miss Universe-Spain just recently. If the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) allows Angela to escalate to the international pageant, she will be Spain\u2019s official bet for the beauty contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love that Spain was really open <em>na pinayagan nila \u2018yung ganun<\/em> (to allow it). I\u2019m really proud <em>na sobrang<\/em> (and very) happy, [that it is] out <em>na talaga<\/em>, and everyone is respecting them, <em>di ba<\/em> (right)?\u201d she said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>However, she had another opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Pero <\/em>(But) Miss Universe per se, <em>sana ibigay na lang sa<\/em> (I hope we give it to the) natural-born women and let transgenders have their own [contest],\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then <em>kasi<\/em> (because), there is Miss International Queen, it\u2019s a prestigious pageant also,\u201d Winwyn added referring to the globally-recognized as the largest pageant for transwomen.<\/p>\n<p>For her, naturally-born women joining the Miss Universe pageant is a tradition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Pero kung i-a-<\/em>allow <em>naman n<\/em>g (But if the) Miss Universe Organization (allows it), then we should accept it also, <em>walang problema <\/em>(no problem at all),\u201d the beauty queen continued.<\/p>\n<p>This was not the first time for Winwyn to encounter such a question. But we have to also respect the essence of being a woman and the tradition of beauty pageants, as well.
