{"id":167591,"date":"2018-06-21T05:17:53","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T09:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=167591"},"modified":"2018-06-21T05:17:53","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T09:17:53","slug":"duterte-first-casualty-on-ban-on-political-dynasties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/06\/21\/duterte-first-casualty-on-ban-on-political-dynasties\/","title":{"rendered":"Duterte, \u2018first casualty\u2019 on ban on political dynasties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ban on political dynasties is among the proposed regulations that garnered approval from the Consultative Committee and the \u201cfirst casualty\u201d of this, is President Rodrigo Duterte, Former Chief Justice and ConCom Chairman Reynato Puno said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first casualty (in the regulation of political dynasties), if I may use that word, is no less President Duterte himself and his family,\u201d\u00a0he said during a lawyer\u2019s forum entitled \u201cRevisiting the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This is because \u201cunder the (regulated) ban, the President cannot be succeeded in office by any member of his family within his second consanguinity or affinity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Puno stressed the need to dismiss \u201cunfounded thoughts\u201d that the country\u2019s move to amend the 1987 Constitution is a \u201cmere sophisticated ploy to prolong the term of the incumbent President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Puno also said Duterte\u2019s six-year term will not be extended during the country\u2019s shift to a federal form of government and the same goes for Vice President Maria Leonor &#8220;Leni&#8221; Robredo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be no term extension for a president and the vice president.
