MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— Despite the Department of Justice (DOJ) order reversing the Bureau of Immigration (BI) decision forfeiting her missionary visa and ordering her to leave the country, Malaca\u00f1ang on Tuesday said Australian nun Patricia Fox is \u201cnot yet off the hook.\u201d<\/p>\n

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that there were still deportation proceedings against her to find out if she engaged in political activities, which was beyond the allowed activities under her visa.<\/p>\n

\u201cNakabinbin pa po yung deportation proceedings<\/em>\u00a0(Deportation proceedings are pending),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra emphasized that the BI’s forfeiture of Fox\u2019s visa has no legal basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur existing immigration laws outline what the BI can do to foreigners and their papers — including visas — when they commit certain acts within Philippine territory. What the BI did in this case is beyond what the law provides, that is why it has to be struck down,\u201d Guevarra said.<\/p>\n

Roque said Guevarra\u2019s decision was done without prejudice to the BI deportation proceedings.<\/p>\n
