(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OfficialDOHgov\/photos\/a.156567044354556.29756.156566631021264\/1273550109322905\/?type=1&amp;amp;theater\">Photo: Department of Health (Philippines)\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said that it will engage at least 3,000 cellphone users in the country as respondents in a mobile phone survey focusing on non-communicable diseases (NCDs).<\/p>\n<p>Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the questions will center more about the habits related to NCDs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Results of the survey will be used to help the DOH measure and come up with its strategies, and develop policies to address the NCD problems,&#8221; Duque said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the mobile phone survey project, which the department targets to finish in one month, will randomly pick participants&#8217; number through computer-generated procedure.<\/p>\n<p>In using mobile technology as a tool to evaluate the NCDs in the country, Duque appealed to the public to give honest answers on the queries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I appeal to the public who may receive a text or a link to a website for the NCD Survey to take the time to seriously participate in this survey and give their best and honest replies,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also assured that identities and personal information of the respondents will not be disclosed or will remain confidential.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the questions, which the respondents may choose to answer in Filipino or English, will be about person\u2019s tobacco and alcohol use, diet, blood pressure, diabetes, and demographics.<\/p>\n<p>The answers of respondents can be sent via SMS or text, which is free for all mobile phone subscribers; or via mobile web, where a link to the website will be sent to subscribers but free only for Smart and Sun subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile for Globe subscribers, the agency recommended them to connect first to a wifi to complete the survey to avoid data charges.<\/p>\n<p>According to the World Health Organization-Western Pacific Regional Office, a significant proportion of Filipino adults continue to be exposed to NCDs due to risks of tobacco and alcohol use, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This in turn, make millions of Filipinos vulnerable to develop NCDs in the future,&#8221; WHO Country Representative Dr. Gundo Weiler told a previous press briefing about the ill-effects of tobacco use.<\/p>\n<p>In the Philippines, NCDs are listed as among the top cause of deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Ischemic heart diseases or the &#8220;hardening of the arteries&#8221; continue to be the leading cause of death in the Philippines with more than 74,000 cases recorded in 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8211;The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said that it will engage at least 3,000 cellphone users in the country &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":101237,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[37],"tags":[3693,2401,48490],"class_list":["post-166458","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-health","tag-department-of-health-2","tag-doh","tag-francisco-duque","mauthors-leilani-junio","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/166458","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=166458"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/166458\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/101237"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=166458"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=166458"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=166458"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
