Kasi for me hindi lang siya (Because I’m not happy, because for me it is not) —although I’m earning because I’m singing pero (but) music for me is basically like the blood in my body na ganon siya ka-importante sakin (that’s how important it is to me). So it’s very important for me na kung ano yung pinaniniwalaan ng puso ko, ‘yun yung kakantahin ko (whatever my heart believes, that is what I’m going to sing),” a tearful KZ said.

“Parang kasi nga ‘di ba, tawag nila sa akin (They call me) as a performer is weird kasi hindi ako ‘yung type ng singer na palagi nilang napapanood, hindi ako yung type na singer na palagi nilang naririnig. Ilang beses na sinasabihan ka na (because I’m not the type of singer that they always see on screen, I’m not the type of singer that they always hear. They told me countless times that) you don’t belong here in this industry,” she added.

In spite of having this unhappy feeling in her heart, KZ is grateful to her family and friends who keep on fueling her inspirational fire when her internal light is dim.

“No matter how I tried to keep everything to myself, ‘yung lahat nang pinagdaanan ko na paghihirap, tina-try ko na itago sa parents ko pero (all the hardships I’m going through, I try to hide it from my parents but) they always find out,” the 26-year-old singer said.

“As in may mga moments ako na nagte-text ako sa handler ko na ‘Ate, ayaw ko na, gusto ko na umuwi, ayaw ko na, hindi ko na kaya.’ Tapos sila ‘yung nagpu-push sa akin (I have moments when I send a message to my handler, saying, ‘I quit, I want to go home, I quit, I can’t bear it anymore.’ And they’re the ones who push me [to keep going]),” she continued.

Together with KZ during the signing ceremony were ABS-CBN executives, led by president and CEO Carlo Katigbak and chief operating officer Cory Vidanes. The singer inked a three-year contract with the entertainment and media conglomerate.

“Ito ‘yung parang culmination ng lahat nang pinagdaanan mo sa buhay. Akala mo na ‘yung nasa darkest moment ka ng buhay mo ay walang magandang naidudulot. Pero ngayon noong nagsa-sign ako na realize ko na parang now it makes sense na (This is like the culmination of everything you went through in life. When you thought that while in the darkest moment in your life, nothing will happen. But now, while I’m signing, I realized that now it makes sense that) when I felt that everything was falling apart, it was actually just falling into place,” Tandingan said.

KZ was the first winner of “The X Factor Philippines” in 2012.
