(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ianbremmer\/status\/991998281642278913\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ianbremmer\/\">Ian Bremmer\/Twitter<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After the Time Magazine tagged the Philippine President as one of the \u2018strongmen\u2019 rising in this era in politics, he decided to curse the renowned magazine and denied the label.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>T*ng ina itong<\/em> Time Magazine <em>na ito nilagay ako doon sa mga <\/em>despot. <em>Hindi naman ako \u2013 Diktador ba ako<\/em>? (This Time Magazine, a son of a b*tch, placed me as in one of the despots. I am not \u2013 Am I a dictator? Since when?),\u201d President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said in his speech on May 8, Tuesday, during the oath-taking ceremony of military generals and flag officers.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said that he has not even sent anyone to prison for talking against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Nilagay pa ako doon sa\u2026 apat kami na mukhang<\/em> monster <em>pa pagka<\/em>-drawing <em>ng mukha <\/em>(I was even placed\u2026 four of [in the cover] looked like monsters in the way we were drawn). Typically the drawing itself was really to fit you as a despot,\u201d the President continued, reacting to Time Magazine\u2019s cover that included an illustration of him, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.<\/p>\n<p>(Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/05\/04\/time-magazine-includes-duterte-in-strongmen-cover\/\">Time Magazine includes Duterte in \u2018strongmen\u2019 cover<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Duterte also emphasized the Filipinos\u2019 right freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a worker of government and I serve the people. And if you are not satisfied with what I am trying to do or my work, by all means, you criticize me. And that would really be simply freedom of expression but that is limited to Filipinos,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The President once again denied that he is not a strongman and that the renowned magazine only published it for sales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that is just my response to this strongman. I\u2019ll never be one. <em>Huwag kayong maniwala d\u2019yan sa <\/em>Time Magazine. <em>Para lang \u2018yan mabili \u2018yung ano<\/em> [magazine] <em>nila<\/em> (Do not believe Time Magazine. That was only published so their magazine will gain sales),\u201d Duterte added.<\/p>\n<p>On May 4, Duterte already reacted to the Time Magazine article and cover, saying that he was not a strongman and that he has not sent anyone to jail.<\/p>\n<p>Time Magazine\u2019s cover story \u201cThe \u2018Strongmen Era\u2019 Is Here.
